The programme involves visit to the Source
of the legendry river GANGA below the base of mighty Himalayan
Peaks (6500-7000m) bordering China, Progress through Gangotri (dream
town!) and onto another valley towards ancient pilgrimage route to
Kedarnath temple (of the Epic Mahabharat) en route crossing the Panwali
Pass commanding a panoramic view of the surrounding Himalayan Peaks. A
number of exotic villages are visited on trail and the programme
climaxes with the ceremonies on the Ganga downstream at Haridwar,
hundreds of burning lamps floating on the river at sunset... prayers
chanted... another spectacle impossible to ever forget.
Highest point : 4463m. Day 01 DelhiArrival Delhi and transfer to hotel. Afternoon city sightseeing of Delhi. Evening tour briefing. Overnight stay at hotel. Day 02 Delhi/Rishikesh (340m) 225 kms by RoadMorning 6 hrs drive to Rishikesh, the city of temples and Ashrams. Check in hotel. PM visit of Temples and boat, visit to Yoga Ashram. Overnight stay at hotel. Day 03 Rishikesh/Uttarkashi (1158m) 164 kms by RoadMorning 7 hrs drive to Uttarkashi thus entering the Himalaya. Uttarkashi altitude the last civilised township. Evening visit the Arti performance at the 400 years old lords Shiva temple. Overnight stay at hotel. Day 04 Uttarkashi/Gangotri (3048m) 100 kms by RoadEarly Morning drive 6 hrs to Gangotri. The dream town where the ancient temple of goddess Ganga is located. Sadhus and Yogis in saffaron clothes are the inhabitants. The place for Meditation and Spiritual knowledge. Latter Prayers to see. Meeting Spiritual Guru. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 05
Gangotri/Bhujbasa (3742m) 14 kms Trek
Morning trek walk starts a gradual 5 hrs towards the great Gangotri Glacier, through a wide open valley of pine forest and glimpses of himalayan peaks and the silence of the Himalaya, punctuated only with the hymns of an occasional Yogi in his state of worship. Beauty in enchanting form. Evening visit and meet the Sadhu at Ashram for tales of mythology. Overnight stay in tent. Day 06 Bhujbasa/Tapovan (4463m) 8 kms TrekEarly morning witness the glorious sunrise on Peaks. Trek 1 hr to Gaumukh, the source of Ganga and a location for many Saints in silent meditation and continue gradually uphill 3 hrs across the Gangotri Glacier to Tapovan. Fascinating Mt Shivling towering above is the seat of meditation of Lord Shiva as in the mythology. Overnight stay in tent. Day 07 Tapovan (4463m) Day for leisure and exploration in the tribe settlement. Overnight stay in tent. Day 08 Tapovan/Chirbasa (3600m) 13 kms TrekMorning meeting with Yogi in Cave. Later walk down into the valley towards Chirbasa. 3 hrs of leisurely trek downhill. In Chirbasa visit a group of Sadhus specialising in the herbal treatment. Overnight stay in tent. Day 09 Chirbasa/Uttarkashi (1158m) 9 kms Trek/100 kms by RoadEarly morning walk 2 hrs to Gangotri and drive 4 hrs to Uttarkashi. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 10
Uttarkashi/Budakedar (1524m) 129 kms by Road
Early morning drive to Budakedar valley a long but fascinating drive 7 hrs dotted with colourful local village. Evening visit ancient temple of stone. Overnight stay in tent. Day 11 Budakedar/Baironchati (2393m) 14 kms TrekMorning start trek walk along the paddy fiends up towards Baironchati. Local houses within the folds of pine forests and the tribesmen grazing their cattle. A 6 hrs walk to the meadows of Baironchati. enchanting place and commanding the best sunset view known in the Himalaya. An old temple used by tribesmen for animal sacrifice attracts many villagers with drums and flutes. Overnight stay in tent. Day 12 Baironchati/Ghuttu (1524m) 10 kms TrekDownhill gradual walk 4 hrs. En route visit into the Garhwal village for meeting with the local family. A rendezvous with the traditional silversmith. Arrive Ghuttu a very small township built around an old temple. Campfire with villagers. Overnight stay in tent. Day 13 Ghuttu/Panwali (3963m) 12 kms TrekEarly morning start walk to cross the Pass of Panwali Kanta. A gradual but long up walk 7 hrs through amazing landscape, of rhododendrons, bhojpatra, distant views of the valleys. A unique tribe is existing here confined to only the reaches of Panwali, the People have striking features and the women are extremely beautiful and interestingly bold and curious towards the visitor. This Panwali Pass overlooks once again the string of Himalayan peaks along the distant horizon an enchanting sight. Overnight stay in tent. Day 14 Panwali/Triyuginaryan (1982m) 16 kms TrekDownhill walk 6 hrs to the ancient temple of Lord Shiva. Visit the temple carved out from rocked and stone. Meeting with the Temple Pandit. Overnight stay in tent. Day 15 Triyuginaryan/Gaurikund (1981m) 3 kms Trek/5 kms by RoadWalk to Gaurikund 3 hrs, a lively township alive with colourful pilgrims and Sadhus. Astrologers and Ayurvedic men. Visit of the ancient sulphur-springs tanks. It is here the God Ganesha got his elephant head. A total profusion of colours and songs provides a dramatic and sudden contrast. Overnight stay at hotel/tourist bungalow. Day 16 Gaurikund/Kedarnath (3584m) 14 kms TrekWalk up towards Kedarnath 5 hrs along with the caravan of Hindu pilgrims from different cultures of India. The way is full of Sadhus chanting religious hymns. Kedarnath is most significant of all Hindu shrines the feeling and atmosphere is awe-inspiring. Witness the Puja ceremony inside the shrine Temple and participate with flowers. Overnight stay at tourist bungalow. Day 17 Kedarnath/Rudraprayag (610m) 14 kms Trek/72 kms by RoadEarly morning walk down 3 hrs to Gaurikund for drive to Rudraprayag approx. 5 hrs. A bustling town of old traditions and local markets. Evening at leisure to explore. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 18
Rudraprayag/Haridwar (292m) 166 kms by Road
Early morning drive to Haridwar 6 hrs. Upon the arrival check in hotel. PM cable car visit to Mansa Devi Temple for hill view of the Ganges and this religious town. Later visit the amazing Ghat where Hindus pour ashes of their dead. Evening for Arti Ceremony witness at Har Ki Pairi. Ganga simmering with burning lamps and echoing prayers. Overnight stay at hotel. Day 19 Haridwar/Delhi 203 kms by RoadMorning drive to Delhi 6 hrs. Check in hotel. PM free for shopping and leisure. Overnight stay at hotel. Day 20 Delhi Departure
