Detailed Itineary
DAY 01 : Arr.
Delhi : Transfer to the hotel and overnight in the Hotel.
Day 02 :
Delhi /Leh: Early morning transfer to the airport to catch the flight
for leh. Met upon arrival and transfer to the hotel. Full day accumulative
with the altitude . O/n in Hotel.
Day 03 : Leh
: Full day city tour of the city visiting the monasteries along
with an English speaking guide. O/n in the hotel.
Day 04 : Leh/Lamayuru
: Drive by jeep to Lamayuru and upon arrival visit to the
famous monastery and the the village. O/n in the camps.
Day 05 :
Lamayuru /Wanla/Phenjila :
Starting from Lamayuru monastery walk down in the valley passing the
houses and the fields of Lamayuru. After the fields turn left following
right . This route will take you to the Printikila Pass at 3900 Mtrs. From
here follow to the gorge until you enter into Shillakong Valley . The
route from here to the left goes to Wanla Village and to the right goes
into the (Red Colour Gompa) on the top of the hill above the village about
2/3 kms . First Priority Camp at Wanla . Visit Monastery . From here if
the time permits then you can head off to Phenjila which is about 3 hrs
walk from Wanla . Camp at Phenjila Village below the trees . The route
from Wanla
follows the Tang river upstream to the left of the river.
Day 06 :
Wanla /Phenjila to Hanupatta : From
Phensjila you follow the left bank of the river until the dead end of the
valley , cross the river on a small wooden bridge . From here follow the
route to the right of the river and after about 01 kms the baggage ponies
have to be unloaded, the load ferried about 100 mts. And then reloaded
again. From this point the Hannupatta Village is still about 4 to 5 hrs
trek, pass the village of hanupatta and about 01 kms ahead is the camping
site on the other side of the river.
Day 07 :
Hanupatta to Photoksar : Re-cross
the river and follow the trek upstream. From here the pass of
SIRSIR LA is about 3 to 4 hrs. Before the base of the pass cross
the Tang river and start the ascent to the pass. From the pass the camping
site of Photoskar is about 2 hrs. For lunch it should be planned to reach
Photoskar as crossing the SIRSIR LA after lunch is not advisable. Start
early from hanupatta camp . the camp at Photoksar is much before the
village and can be on either side of the small river. No Village enroute.
Day 08 :
Photoksar to Chumpado Gongma :
From here until the Boumitsi La the route to followed along with the guide
and from there one can see the SINGE LA PASS , which is about 6 hrs. trek
from this place. Until the pass have to cross several small streams so
advisable to carry extra pair of stockings in case you get wet. From the
pass the route descends steeply to a loose boulder strewn
area. This is
called Chumpado Gongma. And overnight camping.
Day 09 :
GONGMA to LINGSHET : This is a
village and Gompa , From Gongma follow the beaten trek to the Kuba La
Pass. Descend the pass about 300 mts.. Here you cross a clear water stream
and start ascending the NETUKSI LA . it is long ascent and advise the pax
to carry enough water to last until the the top of the pass. From the pass
again follow the well defined route to Lingshet. From here the village is
about 2 hrs. The total trek is 7/8 hours. The Lingshet Gompa is very
interesting with scores of old statues.
Day 10 :
LINGSHET to SNERTSE : Trek
past the Gompa and then climb to the pass . It is quite steep and long too
and takes about 3 hrs to reach to the top. Should not wait too long at the
top. The trek from here to the camping site is about 4 hours.
Day 11 :
SNERTSE to HANAMUR VILLAGE : From the river bank you start the climb
to the Parfi la . Takes 2 to 3 hrs time. Trek another 2 hours downward to
have the flat ground for the lunch. This would the first time to see the
the Zanskar river . The camp is another 2 hrs in the tree grove of Hanamur
Village before the houses.
Day 12 :
HANAMUR to PISHU RIVER : From
here the route is following the right bank of the Zanskar river the
village of Pishu. The camp at Pishu is below the village on the grassy
meadow near the bank of the Zanskar river.
Day 13 :
PISHU RIVER to KARSHA : From
Pishu You can see Zangla Village on the other side and the approach to
this village is on a rope bridge about 01 hrs from Pishu on the Zanskar
river. The total excursion to Zangla fro Pishu and back to bridge will
take about 4 to 5 hours. It
is better to carry on to Karsha - the largest in Zanskar . The camp in
Karsha is near STOD or DODA river.
Day 14 :
KARSHA TO PADUM/TRAKKAR: Cross
the bridge - From here follow the route for Padum passing through Pipting
Village . Visit the new monastery cum residence built in the honour of
Dalai Lama. Then trek to Trakkar Village.
Day 15 :
TRAKKAR TO RERU :From Trakkar the
route follows the right bank of the Kargiakh Chu river. After about 2 hrs
visit the monastery of Bardun perched atop hill. The route to Mune and
further Reru is well defined. O/n camping in the Reru village.
Day 16 :
RERU TO ICHAR OR AFTER
DORTHONG : From Reru bypass the village and enroute view of rope
bridge. The camp at Ichar is on the other side of the river or we can
further. O/n in Dorthong.
Day 17 :
DORTHONG to PURNE : From here you
pass several villages like Kalbok , Surle etc. . The Purne Village is at
the confluence of Kargiakh Chu and the water coming from PHUGTAL
MONASTERY. The camp is on the
other side of the Kargiakh river.
Day 18 :
PURNE TO KARGIAKH : Roughly 21
kms - You pass though one of the most scenic village of the trek
TEESTA. After Teesta 1 km to the village of STANGZE . on the other side of
the KARGIAKH river. From Stanza Passing Thabal Village we arr. At the head
of the Khargiakh Village. The camping sites are before and after the
village. It is advisable to camp away from the village as the population
do not like horses to feed upon there grass and there crops. Though they
welcome you to visit there houses and would gladly offer a cup of butter
tea or Gur Gur Tea.
It will be good to camp after the village as the next stage to the base of
the Shingola can become longer due to River crossing.
Day 19 :
KARGIAKH to LAKONG : 19 Kms - An
early start is advisable from the camp so the rivers can be crossed before
the lunch time. The trek follows the left bank of the river up and down
and always keeping in view the dominating rock peak of GOMBARRANJON. Below
the peak right to the peak and left to the main river there are several
streams running down the other side of the peak and at times create a
nuisance while crossing - take care !! From this point walk through big
stones in the shed of the peak and about 01 hour trek cross the water- to
turn to the base of the Shingola. The
route is clearly visible to the left
of the Shingola nala .
Day 20:
LAKONG to ZANSKAR SUMDO ;17 kms -An early start to cross the pass the
intial climb for the camp is steep and keeps to the right of the stream.
After 01 hour of the climb the traverses to the left nearing to the pass
and walking is on loose moraine . just before the pass the last kilometer
or so is walking on the snow. From the Pass the rest of the route is
visible and the descending is on the Shingo Galcier- which is covered by
debris. Down from the pass follow the stream to the right side as you have
descended. Until Sumdo have to cross several torrential
streams which after 2 pm becomes quite forceful
After crossing the pass RAMJAK on a grassy patch . Climb to the pass from
Lekong will take about 2 hrs.
Rest of the route being rocky but all down will take 6 hours. The last
patch of the trek is steep , descend directly at the camping site on the
bank of BARI river.
Day 21 :
SUMDO to PLAMO: 09m kms- A short day starting with river
crossing right from the camp site - there are two options to reach Plamo -
One is to cross the river which is very difficult due to tremendous water
force and open in the month June July and early Aug. and the second route
is to take a pulley , but may have to cross some more water on the other
side but not as forceful as Shingo water. The cam site at Plamo is
excellent
Day 22 :
PALAMO to DARCH : The last day of
the trek is very relaxing and
gives your eyes some freshness with the greenery around. From the camp
Site cross the river on a small wooden Plank laid over the
narrowest part of the gorge through which the river thunder past it is an breath
taking experience to
stand high upon the bank of the river looking at the fall at the head of
the gorge is to believed to be created by the goddess Paldan Lahmo by the
slash Offer Wapon and hence the Palamo after her name after crossing the
river walk past the Village of Chikka and Reri (Which are the Last
Village at this End of the Lahaul Valley and whom to many of our Horse Man
)after Reri there is a
half Dusty half tar road to
Darcha until the Camping site .
Day 23: Darcha to Manali
: Drive on the National High Way Passing through Jispa ,Gemor ,Keylong
,Tandi , Khoksar Rohtang Pass ,and then You arrive in Kullu Valley
,Arrive at manali Over night at Hotel .
Day 24 :Manali
to Delhi : 585Kms leave after Breakfast for Delhi Long drive Arrive Delhi
in the Late
Evening
. Over night in to hotel.
Day 25 :
Delhi to Back Home : Transfer to
International Airport to connect Flight to back Home |
