It is a highly adventurous journey and gives the feel of true
exploration. In fact only a handful of
 Westerners have ever completed
journey. Temperature at night fall to minus 25 Degree, though daytime
figures can be quite warm. There is a good chance of seeing Ibex and blue
sheep on our way: if we were really lucky winter Fox or Snow
leopard. The round trip is approx. 140 miles long and is used in
mild winter by Ladakhi postmen who take mail from Leh to Padum. Other
hardy Zanskar is use it as a trade route in winter and call it "Chadur"
or frozen blanket.
Any person thinking of joining this unique adventure must be fully prepared
to accept tough camping conditions- some nights we may sleep in caves, and
Zanskar we may sleep on the flat roofs of houses. A head for heights may
be useful and certainly a patient, flexible attitude will be an assets as
anything could happen and probably will.
DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrive Delhi:-- Met upon arrival
transfer to hotel over night in to hotel .
Day 2
Delhi / Leh :--Early morning transfer to
Domestic airport to Catch flight to Leh capital of Ladakh , The flight
really is quite sensational , passing right over the top of the Greater Himalayan
, and making a rather ,"hairy " ending at the military airport ,
just outside the town .Met Upon arrival Transfer to hotel ,Leh is at an
altitude of approximately 11,500 fts .and we do not recommend any major
exercise immediately ,to allow time for some acclimatization . However ,a
walk around the old town and perhaps up to the old potala -- like palace
not be out of the question . Over night in to the hotel .
Day3 Leh :--Again there is plenty see in this
fascinating ancient city. There are a number of Tibetan -Buddhist monasteries
with in easy walking distance ,and the town itself is a fascinating hive
of narrow streets and bazaars . Also visit Hemis & Shey palace Over
night in to the hotel .
Day4 Leh / Sumdah Do :-- To begin with, the
road follows the Indus River for an hour to the confluence with the
Zanskar River , the road then follows this to the village of Sumdah-do and
we then trek for roughly an hour on and off the frozen river to the
village of Chilling Camp . Over night in Camping .
Day5 Sumdah Do to Dakmar
Bawo :-- For the Next 5 days we trek up the Frozen River through
gorges and deep valleys . There are a number of choices for camp sites
,and there fore we can make our itinerary during this time as flexible as
we like .There are also many caves (Bawo ) which can be used for camping
.The names of his stopping places are listed below .Trek Chilling Dakmar
Camp .
Day6 Trek Damar Bawo /
TO / Tibbawo:-- . Over night in camp .
Day7 Trek Tibbawo / TO / Nayekste Bawo :--
Over night in Camp.
Day8 Trek Nayekste Bawo /TO / Wamay Bawo:--
Over night in Camp .
 Day 9 Trek Wamay Bawo to the Village of
Zangla :-- Stay in a Village house Or ( Camp) . It may be that the
previous evening we could find accommodation in one of the other villages
close by to the Zanskar River ,namely the villages of Hanamur or perhaps
Pidmu .We are now well and truly in th Kingdom of Zanskar ,where in times
past there used to be kings .One king lived at Zangla and the other at
Padum .
Day10 Trek Zangla to Tongdey:-- Passing
through the villages of Zozar . Over night in a village house .Shortly
after leaving Zangla we will see the largest of the strange bridges made
from interwoven twigs that are an unusual but common sight in Zanskar .The
gorge also is now left behind and we inter the large lain leading to Padum
. There is a very large and active monastery above the village which we
will visit . Over night in Camp .
Day11 Trek Tongdey to Padum :-- Five or six
hours . Again we could be offered accommodation in township itself ,though
there is a tourist bungalow complex however it is likely to be closed for
the winter .
 Day12 Padum to Rangdum :-- Leave after
breakfast for Rangdum by Jeep Over night in Camp .
Day13 Rangdum to Kargil :-- Leave after
breakfast for Kargil Over night in Camp
Day14 Kargil to Leh:-- Leave after breakfast
for Leh On arrival transfer to the hotel Over night in hotel .
Day 15 Leh:-- Visit Local Market and Day at
leisure
Day16 Leh / Delhi:-- Leave for Delhi Transfer
to Domestic Airport , Met upon arrival transfer to hotel .
Day17 Delhi /
Agra / Delhi :--Optional Day trip tour
OR Tour end after Final Departure from India .
